UNGODLY NEW AGE TERMS AND PRACTICES

UNGODLY NEW AGE TERMS AND PRACTICES

Technological advancement has really improved human social life hence a very informed generation. It has zeroed down the geographical distance between people in different continents; we are therefore able to know what is going on around the globe. Despite living in the midst of the most informed generation there is still so much deception and ignorance among young people. We need to have our eyes open so that we are not consumed by deception in the midst of all this since there is a very thin line between light and darkness.

Life is very spiritual and the sooner you realize it and decide to live by the spirit and not by the flesh the better. What has filled this world is spiritual blindness. If you live by the spirit you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. You can go through Gal 5:16-26 and Compare living by the flesh versus living by the spirit. Also Eph 6:12, we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. This bible verse is an eye opener and my all-time favorite.

There are a number of new age practices and terms that are slowly consuming this generation without youngsters knowing that such things are leading them further from God. I will be so glad to share some of this terms and practices to open your eyes just like God did open mine through His word and listening to His people.

KARMA

This term has been in existence for quite some time now. It is a Buddhism/Hinduism term that has its principals set on cause and effect wherein intent and action of an individual influence the future of that individual. It is a very worldly and superstitious way to look at things. Furthermore, it promotes bitterness, vengeance and resentfulness.  In order to receive forgiveness you need to forgive first. Let it all go. Free your heart and mind from the baggage of waiting for someone to undergo what they put you through. Jesus paid it all on the cross by His death that we may all be forgiven of our sins.  As a believer you need to forgive and pray for people who have done us dirty that they may be forgiven so that you may also be forgiven for your wrong doings. If you find it hard to forgive you need to ask the Lord to help you through. I know someone is thinking about reaping what you sow. No, it is not for you to say that. That is what the Lord says. Those are His words not ours. Leave it all to Him. Vengeance is His not ours.

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes persistent feeling of sadness, hopelessness, frustration and loss of interest. It is classified as a mental disorder. It may cause anger and interfere with an individual’s everyday activity. In extreme cases it may give birth to self-harm and suicidal thoughts that may eventually lead to suicide. Anxiety on the other hand is an emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil that includes feelings of dread over anticipated events. It is usually a natural response to pressure, feeling afraid or threated which can show up in how you feel physically, mentally or how we behave. It is very common to experience depression and anxiety all together. Depression and anxiety are likely to attach to someone when an individual believes that they are in control of their life. The giver of life is the one in control of our life and we ought not to take matters in our own hands and lean on to our own understanding.  When you fully surrender your life to Jesus and live guided by the spirit you will notice that this terms no longer exist at all in your vocabulary. Forget about being a lukewarm believer, you have to fully commit/submit yourself unto the Lord. Just like Jesus was sleeping in the middle of the storm, the amount of immense peace you will receive in the midst of the storms of life cannot be compared to those therapy sessions. If you are already undergoing either of the two or both you need to completely detach yourself from the situations, people or environments that you pushed you into that state then surrender it all to Christ.

MEDITATION

Meditation is the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed. The practice is associated with Buddhism religious tradition. It originates from Asia but finally begun to make its way to other parts of the world during the 20th century. Some of the common words related to meditation are asana, chakra, chant, floatation, incantation, mantra, yoga, transcendental meditation and mindfulness.  Research has proven that meditation could have some serious side effects including troubling feelings and thoughts which are difficult to manage. As a believer you ought not to base your attention onto anything else in this life apart from the word of God. You ought to meditate on it day and night. Joshua 1:8, keep this book of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

SAGE

Burning white sage is a ritual associated with clearing negative energy, bad experiences or unwanted spirits from a person or space. It is a ritual practice among the Native American culture also known as smudging.  It is also associated with healing, wisdom and positivity. Guess who got herself a white sage scented candle?  I was just about to start meditation sessions with my scented candles. I was at the verge of being completely consumed by this new age practice but the Lord was so graceful and merciful to me and He saved me. Of all the scented candles, why would I pick a white sage scented candle? Creepy enough the seller keenly followed up with me via several phone calls wanting to know the reason why I got the candle, the outcome and even wanted me to fill in a product survey form. I would like to refer myself as an innocent person but no for this case, that wasn’t innocence, I was operating in total ignorance. What white sage actually does is that is opens a door for evil spirits to operate through your life.

To protect ourselves against all evil we just need to put on the full armor of God. Eph 13-17, 13 therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

What I would advise any young person out there is this, before you get consumed into these new age practices that are trendy among influencers and your peers, try to do your own research and gain insight about whatever that is you want to jump into. Do not operate in blindness and ignorance. Stay woke.

EVIL EYE

This term is so familiar among young people on social media platforms. It is believed that some people have an eye or glance that is capable of inflicting harm to others out of envy and/or dislike. For that case you ought to put on evil eye jewelry or get an evil eye tattoo on you to protect yourself against any harm that can be inflicted towards you. On social media it is now a trend among young people to use an evil eye emoji in posts and bio with the belief that you are protected. Guess who owned an evil eye bracelet? I had to get rid of it when I got saved and realized as a believer I need to fully depend on God for protection. Pleading the blood of Jesus for coverage and asking God to let Guardian Angels to watch over us is protection enough and we ought not to depend on anything else.

🧿

Here is an evil eye emoji in case you are not aware of what I am talking about. All the jewelries associated with evil eye take the same form of the emoji in terms of design and color. Be on the know.

TAROT, ZODIAC, ASTROLOGY AND HOROSCOPE.

Tarot reading is a form of divination using cards that aims to explore a question about the self or gain insight into the past, present or future. This term tarot card readers is very common on tiktok. Guys, this is modern day witchcraft being performed in broad daylight. Deut 18:10, Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or cast spells or who is a medium or spirits or who consults the dead. Contacting mediums for answers, listening to them, accepting their message and coming into agreement with what they tell you, opens a door for familiar spirits into your life. The outcome of indulging in such is a series of negative patterns in life. If you have already opened this door in your life you need to ask for forgiveness for consulting such mediums. Apart from tarot card readers we also have palm readers and people who run pendulums. If someone in your linage has been involved in such it may equally affect you and you need to ask for forgiveness on their behalf so that you may be set free. You also need to plead the blood of Jesus over your home and your life. Anything you need to know you have to ask from our Father who is in heaven in prayer and He will answer you. All you need is patience.

Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human affairs and the natural world. On the other hand horoscope is the description of what is going to happen to you based on the position of the stars and planets at the time of your birth. The terms astrology, zodiac sign and horoscope are related. Horoscope is a term that has been here for quite some time now. Personally, many a times I would find myself checking my horoscope to understand my personality and feelings. When I was young, I used to read the daily newspapers particularly the daily horoscopes. After the technological advancement and I finally got to own a smart phone, I would find myself using Google to check the daily, weekly, monthly and annual horoscope to find a clue about how life will unfold and also to understand my feelings. Unfortunately, no so many people have a clue that this is wrong.  To get more insight about tarot reading and astrology you can watch this video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/4vN966t14Jo

THE BETTING FAD

BY STELLA LELMET

It is of public notoriety that the economic times we live in has hit us hard in the face. Money rules us. Wealth is the epitome. It gets you everything; property, votes, court favors and women. Money has been deified and is the new age god. And it is a proven fact. The farce and pathos of the people who hold the collective responsibility of the society are busy frittering away public funds and dipping their long fingers in the public coffers to appease their never ending maggot appetites. Blatant corruption has become a tad. Everyday news is theft, with no one sleeping behind bars.

The common Mwananchi is no different. Thuggery is on the rise. Consequently, the blue boys  are having the time of their lives, shooting at whim at whoever is dimmed a suspect. Fortunately or unfortunately, thug life has been left for the hard hearted and those willing to harbor steel bullets in their bodies. The majority of law abiding citizens have discovered a new short cut to success. Betting. A path to wealth accumulation with no violence and no bullet-ducking runs.

Betting has already had a choke-hold on our society, everyone is doing it. A quick conversation with Rodney Ndirangu, a sales officer, affirmed to this. "Betting is the thing now. We call it the new investment platform. Last week I banked 19,800/- after only staking five hundred shillings," a smiling Ndirangu boasted showing me his bet slip.

"Is it that your salary doesn`t fend for you?" I wanted to know.
"No, no. My salary is satisfactory but nothing will ever slake the insatiable thirst for money," he confirmed.

Tempted, I fumbled in my pocket and whipped out a two hundred shilling note. I needed to try this, or rather, the temptation of making a few hundred quick bucks was too great to wave away. I was upbeat about this. I signed up in one of the many betting firms, mulled over which team to risk on and staked my two hundred shillings on an away win. The team, Al- Shabaab. Not the infamous rag-tag militia dimwit, but the Saudi Arabian team. 90 minutes elapsed and my account balanced screamed, Ksh 492. An extra 292 bob. Just like that. Can you imagine what I would have pocketed if I risked my five thousand bob allowance? A whooping 12, 300/- would have padded my account. Now I understand the thrill of betting. Truth be told though. The losses superceede the gains.

"Betting comes with its fair share of losses," Ndirangu advised," Yesterday I lost a thousand bob."
" Na ni team moja iliniangusha." he added. A hackneyed excuse that has become a Kenyan proverb.
Weekly jackpots tremendously increases, a fact backing up my sentiment.

Students are the most affected. They have brood a penchant for gambling. Cashing in their pocket money for a quick gamble. Needless to say, most of their winning money, heck, all of their winning money is spent on booze and carnal pleasure. It gets serious when rent money is gambled and lost leaving them in incessant quibbles with the landlords. I`m left wondering, if educated graduates prefer shorter routes to affluence, what will our future hold for us? These same graduates are the same people we shall rely on to take the mantle of leadership. Take a moment and wonder what Kenya will look like if these dead woods are the breed we shall rely upon. Your guess is as good as mine. We shall be doomed, if we already aren`t. It is worth noting that students should operate from an elevated pedestal and exercise maximum responsibility. That is what is expected of learned comrades.

The betting firms are the only stakeholders who are having a party with this betting agitation. Stealing money from the pockets of participators. I call it stealing because that`s what it is. No wonder the Government wanted a chunk of this large cake by introducing taxes on winning bets. They too are smiling all the way to the treasury.

Betting has only served to make our youths lazy bums, lolling about with the hope of getting rich through betting. In my ken, betting is NO path to success. Hard work and determination is what gets you successful. Money needs you to sweat. Sopping balls of sweat. Well, not really, but you get the point.
Get going and work! Nothing sweet ever comes easy.

VASITY EXPOSED

By Stella Lelmet

The slow smooth ride into the gates of Moi University would make you think that you are entering the proverbial paradise. Quite literally. The tall leafy trees adjourning the gate are a sight to behold and the well trimmed flower fences are expertly chopped and shaped to give the impression of a plaque. Trees of different shapes and sizes direct you to the ever-great cream-painted building housing the administration.

But beauty is skin-deep, right? Let not the trees fool you. Yes, they are gorgeous and all but that is besides the point. The beauty nature graciously blesses our beloved university is mere pretense. A shallow one for that matter. You know the beauty of a woman through her heart. Not through her inner thighs. And Moi University is always the arrogant, pretentious lady who celebrates and marvels at showcasing her inner thighs. Not her ugly heart that stinks and reeks of whatnot.

The trash and garbage dotting the Moi University Main Campus is one hell of a Dandora-type garbage disposal pit. Is it that no workers are employed to do this? No, we have lots of garden cleaners, who unfortunately only get their old rickety legs in the compound come end month. How do i know this, you ask? I have no affidavit to support my sentiments but evidence is there for all who care to see. Trash. Rubbish. Everywhere.

The hostels are dungeons of the stinking devils themselves. You need only be at a spitting distance to brave the strong foul stench emanating from  the hostels. How do people even live in there? Weeks and weeks of rubbish are left uncollected as the heap tremendously rises. Let us even not talk about the washrooms. I`ll probably need another blog.

Water shortages and inadequate power supply are other alarming factors that need immediate response lest the university should be closed down. Due to the university's poor condition student's demonstrate from time to time. Worse still, no action has ever been taken by the school management. Student leaders are also lazing around. They are nowhere to be found to fight for the welfare of fellow comrades.

Current condition at D houses.
Dirt littering everywhere.
